well i woke up at 08:30 and took my thyroxin and a glass of orange juice. my head is pounding and my ears are ringing it sounds like there is a dentist drill in my head (wonderful). I go down stares and put on the wii fit so i can weigh myself and discover the batteries in the remote are dead. so i run around the house looking for more but in vein there are non. i call one of the neighbours and she says she will have a look for me. so i get back into bed and go on the pc (i have to wear my tinted glasses as my head is starting to throb. i try to log on to a sight and realise that i have forgotten all the login detail that i set up last night (this illness is destroying me one day at a time). at 09:30 i take 2 diamox and 1 topamax washed down with a glass of water. then my neighbour comes over with the batteries so i get on the wii and do the fitness test .

well here we are 1 year and 3 month later and it turns out my fears were well founded. since i last spoke on here I left uni in Jan 2010 due to my job at The O2 being to demanding and did an NVQ2 in gambling operations and in June I started at a casino in London. In Sep I had a ruptured ovarian cyst and whilst i had that i could hear a familiar whooshing sound in my ears which i tried my best to ignore a dull headache began when i went back to work from being off with the cyst and i began to make mistakes that trainees make not someone with my 5 years experience they were mistakes i would never make under any ordinary circumstances. then one night I fainted and the same thing happened the next night and i spent the rest of the night feeling as though i was on gas and air, i could not concentrate on anything, especially dealing cards or roulette. the next day as i was getting ready for work my mum noticed i was slurring my speech as if i had been drugged. she called NHS direct who told her that because of my history i should go straight to casualty and explain the circumstances and then my history. they then sent me to the ophthalmologist who in turn said my gp needed to refer me to the neuro. so not as urgent as the first time but i knew right then that it was defiantly back.
by the time i saw the neuro i fainting pretty much on a Daley basses i couldn't sleep because of the claymore in my head from both tinnitus and pulsatile tinnitus i was being sick after every meal my left eye was swollen my short term memory was shot to pieces i constantly felt as if i were out of it on drugs without taking any and of course there was the pounding headache.
they confirmed my suspensions.
diagnosis benign intracranial hypertension but he also added in migraines with it. he has put me on diamox and topamax which are both treatments for this condition my weight at that point was 15st 5lb. the reason i am starting this blog again is because BIH (Benign Intracranial Hypertension) or IIH (Idiopathic Intracranial hypertension) as it is mow widely known now is such a rear condition that there is not enough information for patients and not enough Dr's know about the disorder or its symptoms so people can go overlooked not knowing they have it until they need drastic action. we need to raise awareness and fund charities like iih uk so more research is done to find a cure for this debilitating disorder. so myself and a few other sufferers off this thing have decided to do the IIH UK £s for lbs Challenge and starting tomorrow this blog will be used as it was original planed

Monday, 28 December 2009

In November 2004 I was eighteen stone and getting constant headaches. I went to my GP he took one look in my eyes and told me that I needed to go straight to hospital. Instantly got on the bus and went directly to the hospital, Phoning my family to let them know what was happening. After five days of being tested, poked and prodded and having lots of different machines scanning and testing my eyes the neurologist told me that it was a condition called benign intracranial hypertension which only happens to one in one hundred thousand overweight woman of child baring age. He told me that it was imperative that I get to below fifteen stone. I started going to the gym every day, aqua aerobics three times a week and swimming twice a week, through a patient recommendation scheme which made it more affordable. I was having trouble keeping food down anyway so my meal sizes were two table spoons full five times a day (any more than that and I was physically ill) but I was still gaining weight, the headaches were getting worse and my menstrual cycle was more frequent then anyone would want. I started to get these odd hot flushes where my hands were ice cold and the rest of me was burning hot and flushed. So I went back to the Dr who sent me for some blood tests; the results said that I had an underactive thyroid. I began to take thyroxin and the weight started to fall off. One year after I had first been diagnosed, I had lost two stone and I had learnt to ignore the headache in fact the only time I noticed it was on the rear occasion that I was pain free normally after two glasses of red wine. I decided it was time I got back into a working environment in the June I found a job working as a steward in an arena which was just about to open. After one day of the arena opening I was made supervisor. I lost another two stone in two weeks. I was working so much that I had no time to go to the gym (the price of which had gone up to a fee that I could no longer afford). My weight stayed the same for another six months then I started university. Over the next eight months I lost another stone.

I was thirteen stone, the headaches had been gone for seven months and life was good. My appetite had come back and I was no longer taking regular exercise this was a big problem now eighteen months later I have gained back two stone and the headaches are coming back. I am scared.

When I was losing weight the dietician told me to keep a diary of food and exercise and for one of my courses I need to keep a blog, therefore, I have decided to kill two birds with one stone.

This blog is going to be on my progress as I get back into a regime of healthy eating and exercise. It will follow the highs and the lows of my journey. I will keep a record of what I eat, the exercise I do and my emotions each day and once a week we will all find out my weight and my measurements. I’m not promising miracles just perseverance.
